Overview
Savitribai Phule Pune University is a Maharashtra state university set up in 1949; its Centre for Distance and Online Education, started in 2018 as the School of Open and Distance Learning, runs its distance and online degrees. Distance students get printed books and attend study centres in Pune, Ahilyanagar and Nashik districts, while the online MBA, MCA, BBA and BCA run through the university’s website.

How to apply
Distance admission page: the university’s website Online MBA, MCA, BBA and BCA admissions run on the university’s website. Admission is confirmed only once the study centre has your printed form, and distance admission is for Indian citizens only.
Eligibility

MBA
A bachelor’s degree of at least 3 years with 50% marks (45% for PWD and reserved-category candidates from Maharashtra). The 360 distance seats are filled on entrance test marks.

MA, M.Com
A bachelor’s degree of at least 3 years from any recognised university.

BA, B.Com
12th (10+2) with English, a 3-year diploma after Class 10, a Maharashtra D.Ed. with English, or a 2-year ITI after Class 10. There is no age limit.

BBA, BCA (online)
BBA: 12th in any stream with 40% and English, or a 3-year diploma after Class 10. BCA: 12th in Science, or a 3-year DTE-approved diploma.
Exams and study
Internal assessment is done at your study centre, and end-semester exams are held at the study centre or another college. The CDOE runs June and December exam sessions.
Printed self-learning books are given after admission. Teaching is in Marathi and English; some subjects, such as Sanskrit, are in Marathi only.
Distance study centres are in colleges across Pune, Ahilyanagar and Nashik districts; the admission form lists only these three districts.
UGC recognition. UGC-DEB’s 2026-27 Category-I list entitles SPPU to offer 24 distance (ODL) programmes, including the MBA, MCA, M.Com, MA, BA, B.Com, BBA and BCA, and its online list covers six: BBA, BCA, M.Com, MBA, MCA and M.Sc (Computer Applications). For 2026-27 the CDOE offers BA, B.Com, MA, M.Com and MBA by distance, and the MBA, MCA, BBA and BCA online.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an entrance test for the SPPU distance MBA?
Yes. The distance MBA has 360 seats, allotted on entrance test marks, with any left over filled first come, first served. BA, B.Com, MA and M.Com have no entrance test or seat limit.
How much is the SPPU distance MBA?
₹18,805 for the first semester if your degree is from a university in Maharashtra, or ₹20,605 otherwise. This covers tuition, books, the study centre and the regular exam fee. The prospectus doesn’t list later semesters.
What does the SPPU online MBA cost?
₹40,220 a semester plus a ₹1,000 registration fee, so ₹1,61,880 for four semesters by our sum (the university’s website, checked 21 October 2026).
Can I join in January 2027?
Not yet. SPPU ran a January-February 2026 intake for the MBA, MA, M.Com and online MCA, but no 2027 notice had been posted on 21 October 2026. The August 2026 session closed on 10 October 2026.
Can I study by distance if I live outside Pune?
Distance study centres are only in Pune, Ahilyanagar and Nashik districts, and you hand in your form and sit exams there. Students from boards or universities outside Maharashtra pay a higher fee.
If SPPU CDOE isn’t the right fit
SPPU’s distance study centres are only in three districts around Pune. IGNOU has distance and online options across India, and UGC-entitled private online MBAs start at ₹67,000 in total (Mangalayatan University, fee checked 17 October 2026).
