Overview

The University of Burdwan, a state university in Bardhaman, began on 15 June 1960. Its Centre for Distance and Online Education, set up in 1994 as the first of its kind in West Bengal, teaches MA, M.Sc Computer Science and MBA courses by distance from Vidyasagar Bhavan on the Golapbag campus, with soft-copy study material and contact classes.

Fees are from the CDOE’s admission notices of 14 August 2026 for the July 2026 – June 2028 session. The figures shown are for Burdwan University graduates; graduates of other universities pay ₹200 more (₹8,200 or ₹8,700 for the MA, ₹15,200 for M.Sc Computer Science, ₹25,200 for the MBA). Everyone pays a one-time ₹500 online registration fee, and the late fee is ₹500. The MA notice gives the Part I fee only; the Part II fee is not stated. Course fees are not refunded once paid.

How to apply

1Create your ABC ID and then your DEB ID on the UGC-DEB portal, with your Aadhaar details corrected first
2Fill in the online form on the CDOE portal, choose your course and study centre, and set a password; your application ID is your user name
3Log in again and pay online by card, net banking or UPI (the full Part I fees for the MA, the ₹500 registration fee first for the MBA and M.Sc), then upload your photo, signature and ABC ID card
4Print the form and take it, the payment receipt and your original mark sheets to the CDOE office at Golapbag or your study centre on the verification date

Eligibility

  • MBA

    A bachelor’s degree (10+2+3) from a recognised university, plus Burdwan’s entrance test or a MAT, CMAT, CAT or XAT score, then group discussion and interview. In 2026 this was an online interaction round.

  • MA (Bengali, English, History, Philosophy, Sanskrit)

    At least a second-class honours degree in the subject, or a pass degree with the subject as an elective (300 marks or more) and at least 30% in it, or an MA in another subject.

  • M.Sc Computer Science

    B.Sc (Hons) in Computer Science, a BCA, a B.E., or B.Sc (Hons) in Mathematics, Statistics, Electronics, Physics or Chemistry with Computer Science as a subject.

Exams and study

Exams at Golapbag, Bardhaman

The MBA and M.Sc Computer Science semester exams of September–October 2026 were held at the CDOE, Vidyasagar Bhavan, Golapbag. The MA has yearly term-end exams, Part I and Part II.

Soft-copy study material

Study material is given as a soft copy: in English for MA English, M.Sc Computer Science and the MBA, and in Bengali for MA Bengali, Sanskrit, History and Philosophy.

Contact classes and assignments

Need-based personal contact classes run at Golapbag and the study centres. Assignments are marked to check progress but do not count towards the term-end result.

UGC recognition. UGC-DEB’s 2026-27 list of HEIs recognised for ODL (session beginning August 2026) includes the University of Burdwan for 7 programmes: MA Bengali, English, Sanskrit, History and Philosophy and M.Sc Computer Science (recognised up to January 2027) and the MBA (up to July–August 2029). It has no online programmes on the 2026-27 lists.

How much is the Burdwan University distance MA?

₹8,000 for Part I at the Bardhaman centre, or ₹8,500 at another study centre, for Burdwan graduates. Add ₹500 registration and ₹1,000 exam fee a year.

What does the Burdwan CDOE MBA cost?

₹25,000 a semester plus a ₹2,000 exam fee, so ₹1,00,000 in course fees over four semesters by our sum. It is taught at Bardhaman only.

Can I join Burdwan CDOE now?

Not for July 2026; the extended last date was 4 October 2026. No notice for the next intake was up on 23 October 2026.

Is there an entrance test?

Only for the MBA: Burdwan’s own test or a MAT, CMAT, CAT or XAT score, then group discussion and interview. MA and M.Sc seats go by eligibility and merit.

Where are the study centres?

Bardhaman and nine colleges for the MA, in Jalpaiguri, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda, Birbhum, Bankura, Hooghly and Kolkata. M.Sc and MBA are at Bardhaman only.

If Burdwan University CDOE isn’t the right fit

Burdwan’s CDOE has no bachelor’s degree, M.Com or MCA by distance. IGNOU admits in January and July, and UGC-entitled private online MBAs start at ₹67,000 in total (Mangalayatan University, fee checked 17 October 2026).
