Overview
Uttarakhand Open University is the state’s open university, set up in 2005 under an Act of the Uttarakhand government, with its headquarters in Haldwani. It teaches by distance (ODL), with study material in Hindi or English and counselling at learner support centres across the state.

Each semester adds an exam fee (₹300 a course for PG, ₹250 for UG) to the programme fee, with ₹150 miscellaneous in the first semester and a ₹500 degree fee in the last; UG courses also have a ₹500 SEC fee each semester. Totals are our sums of the semester totals; UG tables list only the first two semesters. MBA applicants pay ₹500 more for counselling and document checks. Taking e-SLM instead of printed books cuts the programme fee by 15%.

Eligibility

MBA
A degree or master’s with 50% marks, or 45% with two years of supervisory, managerial, professional or teaching work after it (5% relaxation for reserved categories). Entrance test by UOU, or a MAT or CAT score.

MCA
BCA or a computer science degree with 50% (45% reserved). A B.Sc., B.Com or BA with maths and 50% also qualifies after a one-year DCA bridge course.

BA, B.Com, BBA, BCA
A Class 12 pass. BCA students without maths in Class 12 pass one maths paper during the course.

MA, M.Com
A degree in any stream for the MA. The M.Com needs a B.Com.
Exams and study
You pick an exam city when you apply, and there is no separate exam form for regular exams. The next term-end exams are the December 2026 session.
Self-learning material comes in Hindi or English, and you can write exams in either. Take e-SLM from the university’s website instead of print and the programme fee drops by 15%. Assignments carry 30 marks and are submitted online.
144 centres, mostly colleges, under regional centres at Dehradun, Roorkee, Pauri, Uttarkashi, Haldwani, Ranikhet, Pithoragarh and Karnprayag. They run counselling and lab sessions.
UGC recognition. UGC-DEB’s 2026-27 list recognises UOU for 50 distance (ODL) programmes. The BA, B.Com, BBA, BCA, M.Com and most MA subjects are recognised up to January 2028, but the MBA and MCA only up to January 2027. UOU is not on UGC-DEB’s online lists.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an entrance test for the UOU MBA?
Yes. Admission is through UOU’s entrance test or a MAT or CAT score. You need 50% marks at graduation or post-graduation, or 45% with two years of relevant work experience.
How much is the UOU MBA?
The programme fee is ₹10,100 a semester. With exam, project, viva and degree fees the four semesters come to ₹48,550 (our sum), plus a ₹500 counselling and document verification fee.
Can I study at UOU online?
Not for a degree in 2026-27. UGC-DEB lists UOU for distance (ODL) programmes only. You can take the study material as e-SLM and get 15% off the programme fee.
When is the next UOU admission?
July 2026 admissions closed on 13 October 2026. The prospectus plans a January 2027 window from 1 to 31 January, but no notice is out yet (checked 21 October 2026). MBA and MCA admit new students in July unless seats are left.
Is UOU accredited?
Yes. NAAC gave UOU a B++ grade (CGPA 2.77), valid from 18 October 2022 to 17 October 2027, according to its own quality report.
If UOU isn’t the right fit
UOU teaches by distance only, and its MBA needs an entrance test. IGNOU offers distance and online courses with admission twice a year, and UGC-entitled private online MBAs start at ₹67,000 in total (Mangalayatan University, fee checked 17 October 2026).
